Dr Sanji de Sylva
VP – Clinical Engagement and Informatics

Dr Sanji de Sylva is Vice President, Clinical Engagement and Informatics a physician with an extensive career history of leadership in clinical informatics. In a career that has encompassed medicine and technology, he has driven the implementation of large-scale clinical information systems as part of healthcare transformation. He has successfully delivered Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Health Information Exchange (HIE) implementations, clinical business process redesign programmes, and change management initiatives in the Middle East, NZ, Australia and the UK.

Dr Sanji joined Malaffi in 2018, where, during his tenure as the Director of Clinical Informatics and Adoption, he was responsible for the clinical design, data standardisation and clinical adoption of Malaffi, MENA’s first HIE platform. In 2022, he was appointed Vice President of Clinical Engagement and Informatics. As part of the Executive Leadership Team, he is working with the Department of Health on defining strategies for the digital transformation of healthcare in Abu Dhabi.

Prior to joining Malaffi, Dr de Sylva was the Professional Services Director at Dell Services (EMEA) where he led a team of clinical transformation consultants in deploying an enterprise-wide electronic medical record solution across 15 hospitals and 25 primary care clinics in the Middle East.

Dr Sanji regularly contributes to the professional community by actively participating in local, regional and global digital health events, His topics of interest include data standards and quality, advanced healthcare data analytics, implementation and clinical adoption of clinical informatics projects, and patient experience and engagement.

Dr Sanji holds A Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB) from University of Otago and a Masters in Management from Massey University, New Zealand.
