As Malaffi’s Legal and Compliance Director, Luke Highfield ensures the highest degree of legislative oversight of Malaffi’s array of operations, providing expert legal counsel for the company’s healthcare mandate while ensuring that it functions within the UAE’s framework of laws and regulations. Luke joined the Malaffi team in August 2021.
An international Legal Counsel with a career history of working in the corporate banking and telecommunications industry in the UAE and Australia, His previous roles include legal counsel for the telecommunication companies, Etisalat and Vodafone. At Etisalat, the UAE telecommunications provider, he worked as a senior member of the Corporate and Commercial team, while prior to that at Vodafone - Hutchison Australia, his position as Corporate Counsel saw him providing legal support for the sales and support functions within the company.
Before his career took him in a legal direction, Luke honed his financial acumen and expertise with Westpac Banking Corporation joining the bank on a scholarship back in 2009 before moving full-time into the corporate banking world with a range of relationship management roles, fostering Luke's emphasis on strong relationships.
Luke has a special interest in commercial contracting, progressive technology, consumer law, competition law, dispute resolution and regulatory affairs. His expertise is characterised by taking a practical approach to the law that emphasises the importance of nurturing relationships to meet commercial objectives.
Luke attended the University of Newcastle, Australia, where he gained a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) along with post-graduate certifications through the College of Law, Australia (Sydney).
